History Viewer | Lower Macungie Township

This dynamic, interactive map allows you to explore different layers of history for Lower Macungie Township, and the Boroughs of Macungie and Alburtis.  The menu on the left-hand side contains a variety of filters and toggles which help to explore different combinations of data on the area's history.  Moving the slider on one of the aerial photography layers controls the transparency of that imagery, allowing you to compare and visualize the transformation of space over time.  The Historic Maps layers provide an overlay of the original maps, georeferenced and projected over real imagery, manipulating and stretching where applicable; these layers allow you project historic maps, atlases, and other records over top of real-life photography.  Further, the Site Inventory section contains different options and data points on historic buildings: the slider allows you to control buildings by date-of-construction (note: Mines do not have a founding state and will ignore this slider), the boxes under Building Types allows you to show/hide different buildings, and the Current Status filters allow you to show/hide buildings based on certain conditions such as if the building is still standing, or has been demolished, or in the case of mine records, if they've been filled in or flooded to form a body of water.

This map was made with QGIS, Photoshop, and MapBox, with data sourced from publicly available datasets and imagery.
